My daughter asked why I always put the ice cream back in the freezer before scooping it

I told her it's called pre-freezer commitment.

I take the carton out, set it on the counter, stare at it for a solid thirty seconds while I find the scoop, wrestle with the drawer that never opens right, then put the ice cream back in the freezer to "firm up" while I locate bowls.

By the time I pull it out again, it's rock solid and I need a chisel.
